Reporting to the Supervisor, Dow Centennial Centre, Arenas & Taurus Field, the Foreman directs Arenas & Field operations staff and contractors in maintaining the Dow Centennial Centre Arena, Sportsplex Arena, and Jubilee Recreation Centre, Nutrien Soccer Field and Taurus Field. The Foreman must ensure these facilities are operated cost effectively and are readily available in an attractive, clean, safe, and presentable condition for staff and the public use. This is accomplished through scheduling, coordinating, and supervising the available resources on a daily basis, ensuring the annual work plan for the section is carried out with maximum efficiency and safety while meeting desired service levels and ensuring annual operating budgets are adhered to.
Include, but are not limited to:• Prioritize work to be done, assign daily tasks to staff, and supervise work that is carried out. Coordinates daily, weekly, monthly, and annual work projects.• Ensure that staff receive appropriate instruction and/or training to carry out their work in a safe and productive manner. Develop and monitor the site-specific safety processes and procedures to ensure compliance from staff and contractors.• Coordinate resources to ensure that staff have the equipment, tools, and materials to do their work in a timely manner. Ensure that internal and external clients receive excellent customer service.• Prepare schedules for staff based on bookings, customer needs, and operations. Check and ensure accuracy for employee timesheets and authorize.• Source and hire contractors for specific tasks and monitor their work performance and work quality as per established City Procurement Guidelines. Liaise with building inspectors, obtaining reports and approvals for all projects.• Operate equipment for the purpose of completing Arena and Field work as required.• General maintenance duties/repairs as it pertains to the operations of the arena and field – relamping, plumbing, electrical maintenance, carpentry, patching/painting, purchase and disposal of project materials, exterior Christmas lights, and decorations.• Maintain Arena & Fields according to best practices, industry standard, and applicable government regulations.
The successful candidate will have a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in arena operations, facility maintenance, planning, and coordinating arena and field repair / maintenance programs is required. This position requires a minimum of 3 years of progressive supervisory experience, preferably in a municipal setting. A good working background of carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing is required. Completion of the AARFP Arena Operator Level I and Level 2 certifications; AARFP Arena Maintenance – Zamboni certification; Building Maintenance Level 1 certification is required. Completion of the Building Maintenance Level 2 certification is an asset. The incumbent will have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal) to deal effectively and in a professional manner with all staff and external contacts. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to delivering excellent customer service and will thrive in a fast paced, high volume work environment. This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will be required to provide a current Driver’s Abstract at time of interview.Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per weekWeekend or Evening work may be required based on operational needs
