Reporting to the Foreman, Parks Services, the Labourer II performs a wide variety of work functions within the outdoor rinks and snow bank rinks, and other duties within the Public Works Department. This position uses safe work practices and procedures to carry out assigned tasks and contributes to the overall effectiveness of the work team. The primary role of this position will be to establish and maintain outdoor and snow bank rinks surfaces and provide security and supervision of skaters and various user groups, both on the ice and in change facilities, collect data on public usage within the outdoor rinks, and janitorial services as required.
May include, but not limited to:• Perform ice maintenance duties to provide a clean, smooth, clearly marked, level ice surface that is available when required by user groups. • Operate light and medium duty equipment and handheld power tools in a safe and efficient manner used in the maintenance of outdoor rinks, parks, trails, sidewalks and open spaces.• Perform pre-equipment inspections and servicing of vehicles and equipment at the end of each day, reporting mechanical problems to the Foreman.• Assist the Operator II with the servicing and repairs of equipment not within the Mobile Equipment pool.• Ensure facilities are unlocked, and/or secured in accordance to all schedules, policies and procedures.• Maintain positive public relations and ensure that all rules and regulations pertaining to the outdoor and snow bank rinks are adhered to.
The successful candidate must have a Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and experience in the operation and servicing of parks maintenance and snow removal equipment. Good organizational and excellent customer service skills, with the ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing are essential. This is a physically demanding position; incumbents will be required to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions.This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will be required to provide a current Driver’s Abstract at time of interview.Hours of Work: Varying shifts, working 40 hours per week from November 13, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Varying shifts, working a minimum of 15 hours per week from January 1, 2024 to March 23, 2024. This is a temporary position with a tentative end date of March 23, 2024.
